What is and is not shared
| Item | Shareable? | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Play Points balance | No | Cannot transfer or combine accounts |
| Level progress | No | Tracked on the purchasing account |
| Eligible purchased content | Sometimes | Family Library rules apply |
| Family payment method | Usable for eligible purchases | Does not change who earns points |
Who earns points with a family payment method?
The Google Account that makes the eligible purchase earns the points. Google's troubleshooting guidance says you do not earn points from purchases made by someone else in the family group, even when they use a family payment method.
Before checkout, confirm the profile icon and account email. Paying with the family card does not move the points to the family manager.
Family Library is different
Family Library can share eligible purchased apps, games, movies, TV shows, ebooks, and audiobooks with up to five family members. Eligibility varies by content and country. In-app purchases and subscriptions generally are not the same as a shareable app purchase.
A shared title remains content access; it does not share the buyer's Play Points, redeemed Play credit, coupons, or level.
A safer family setup
- Decide which account should own the purchase before paying.
- Check whether the item shows Family Library eligibility.
- Confirm the active Google Account at checkout.
- After purchase, verify points in that account's Points history.
Avoid passing passwords between family members. Use Google's family features and purchase approvals instead.
Estimate points on the account that will buy
Select the level of the account making the purchase. A family payment method does not merge levels or balances.
