The one-year rule
The balance does not expire one year after each individual purchase. Google describes one expiry date based on your latest point activity. If eligible activity occurs before that date, the balance expiry date moves forward.

What resets the expiry date
Earning points from an eligible purchase or promotion, and using points for an eligible reward, count as point activity. Merely opening the Play Store, viewing the balance, or using Play credit without earning or spending Play Points should not be treated as a reset.
Do not make an unnecessary purchase only to protect a tiny balance. Compare the points at risk with what you would actually spend.
How to check the exact date
- Open Google Play with the account enrolled in Play Points.
- Tap the profile icon, then Play Points.
- Open Use and find the balance and expiry date near the top.
- Open Points history to confirm the latest earning or redemption activity.
If the date is missing or the balance changed unexpectedly, take screenshots of the balance and history before contacting support.
Do not mix up three deadlines
Your point-balance expiry, annual level progress, and the expiry of a redeemed reward are separate. Spending points reduces the balance but does not remove points already counted toward annual level progress. A Play credit or coupon received from points may still expire even while your Play Points balance remains active.
Plan a useful purchase before points expire
Estimate how much spend is needed for a target number of points. Use it only for a purchase you already intend to make.
