Google Play quests: why they do not appear or complete

Published ยท Updated ยท Official info checked ยท Google Play guide

A Google Play quest is a set of steps that awards a benefit only after all required steps are complete. The offer, deadline and task list can differ by account. Use your own quest progress page as the final rule instead of copying another user's purchase amount or play condition.

Where quests appear and why yours may be missing

Eligible users may see a quest on the Play Points page or in Play Store tabs such as Games, Apps or You. Not seeing an offer that appears on somebody else's account is not, by itself, evidence of an error.

Google says the quests you receive can depend on account settings or activity, including Play Points level where relevant. The steps and rewards may also differ between users.

Five details to save before you start

  1. Deadline: check both the completion deadline and any reward claim deadline.
  2. Account: confirm the Google account that opened or started the quest.
  3. Exact steps: save the app, game, amount, count and play requirements.
  4. Order: steps are normally flexible unless the quest page says otherwise.
  5. Settings: note whether Play personalization or a Play Games profile is required.

A screenshot before purchase is more useful than trying to reconstruct the terms after progress fails. Keep it private because account names and offer details may be visible.

What counts as a purchase

For a Play Points reward quest, Google defines a purchase as a Google Play transaction that earns Play Points. Depending on the country and offer, this can include:

  • paid apps or games;
  • in-app or in-game items;
  • subscription payments and renewals;
  • book or movie rentals that earn points in the region.

Redeeming points for an item, or paying with points, does not count. Those actions do not generate new Play Points. An extended trial without a payment method may also earn no points and therefore fail the purchase step.

Play Games sign-in and personalization

Some game-related quests require Play personalization so Google Play can track in-game activity. Some also require the game session to use a signed-in Play Games profile.

  1. Check the Google account used for the quest.
  2. Check the account signed in to the game and Play Games profile.
  3. Read the quest page for a personalization requirement.
  4. Confirm the required play time, achievement or task is actually complete.
  5. Reopen the progress page and look for a stated processing period.

Do not turn on additional tracking just because a third-party guide says so. Read the condition on your quest and make your own privacy choice.

Cancellations, refunds and missing progress

If a qualifying purchase is canceled while the quest is incomplete, Google says you can make another qualifying purchase while the offer remains active. If a purchase is refunded after completion, the quest can return to incomplete.

  • A claimed quest reward may be reversed when the purchase affecting eligibility is reversed.
  • An optional bonus task may behave differently and might not return to incomplete.
  • Pending or canceled orders should be checked before assuming a tracking failure.

When progress still does not update, record the quest name, deadline, step, order time and the account used. Contact Google Play support after the stated processing time. Never publish an order number or email address in a forum.

FAQ

Can I complete the steps in any order?

Usually yes, unless the quest progress page gives a specific order.

Does a Play Pass renewal count?

Google lists a Play Pass subscription renewal as a purchase when it earns Play Points and meets the quest terms.

Why did my completed quest become incomplete?

A canceled or refunded qualifying purchase can remove the progress that completed the quest.

Only calculate spending after confirming the task

If the quest genuinely requires a purchase you already planned, use the calculator to estimate ordinary points. Do not buy first and search for the quest later.
