Play credit issue

Play Points credit cannot be exchanged or used: checks

Updated 2026-07-25 ・ Play Points troubleshooting

Separate the problem into before and after exchange. If the Play credit reward cannot be selected, check required points and whether it is offered to your account. If it was already exchanged, check expiry, account, country and currency, eligible purchase, and the payment method at checkout.

Before exchange: points and reward availability

Open Play Points and the Use tab to confirm that Play credit is offered on the current account. If the item is grayed out, you may not have enough points for that reward.

Available rewards can differ by country, region, and account. Do not plan around a Play credit option shown only in a screenshot from another region.

After exchange: expiry and balance

Google says Play credit received from exchanging points expires after one year. Do not confuse that deadline with the expiry of the Play Points balance or other Play balance.

Check the exchange or points history as well. If the exchange appears but the balance does not, confirm that checkout is using the same account that made the exchange.

Use the same account and same currency

Google Play balance cannot be transferred between accounts. On a device with multiple accounts, choose the item and reach checkout with the account that holds the balance.

The balance can be used for content sold in the same currency. If the country, payment profile, or item currency differs, the Play balance may not be available.

If you changed your Play country

Google says that after you changed your Play country, the old-country Play balance cannot be used in the new country. It remains tied to the previous country.

A missing balance after a country change cannot be fixed by sending it to another account or cashing it out. Check the old payment profile and existing subscriptions before another purchase.

Eligible purchase and checkout method

Play balance can buy or subscribe to content and services on Google Play, but it cannot buy Google Store hardware or top up Google Pay or another payment method. Country-specific availability also applies.

If the balance is lower than the purchase amount, some supported purchases allow it to be combined with another payment method. Confirm Play balance is selected at checkout, and remember that Play credit exchanged from points is not refundable.

Check the condition before spending again

Identify why the reward is unavailable, then estimate only the purchase you already plan to make.
