Google calculates Play Points from the eligible item price and excludes tax. A sale, promo code or coupon can change what you actually pay, so points should not be estimated from the crossed-out list price without checking checkout.
Offers also have account, currency, country, app and expiration conditions. The pre-purchase point estimate and completed Points history are the final practical checks.
Four things often called a “promo”

These mechanisms affect either the payment amount, the earning rate or both, so they should not be mixed into one shortcut.
Use the final eligible item price, not tax
Google’s earning guide says points are based on the item price and do not include taxes paid. If a discount lowers the eligible item price, a calculation based on the original price can overstate the expected points.
The safest approach is to look for the point estimate on the Google Play payment sheet after the discount is applied.
Play Points coupons have app and value conditions
A coupon exchanged with Play Points applies automatically only to an in-app purchase that meets the coupon conditions. The item must be at least the required value, and the coupon is tied to an account, app, currency and country or region.
A US-dollar coupon should not be expected to work after changing Play country or on a different Google Account.
Promo codes and Offers are account-specific
Google Play promotions can differ based on account settings, activity and location. Some promo codes must be redeemed immediately, while others can be saved under Offers until their expiry date.
Do not assume a code shared online is valid for your account, country or currency. Read the displayed terms before changing the cart.
An earn-rate boost is different from a price discount
A 5-points-per-$1 boost can increase points without reducing the item price. A $5 discount can reduce payment without changing the base earning rate. If both appear, confirm whether the terms allow them together.
Activate an earn-rate offer before purchase when the offer requires activation. A screenshot after purchase does not retroactively change eligibility.

- Confirm the purchasing Google Account and US Play country.
- Apply the code or coupon and verify the final item price.
- Exclude sales tax from a manual estimate.
- Check whether a point multiplier is active and app-specific.
